Hypnotherapy for Smoking

Smoking is probably the first thing people think about when they encounter the word, 'hypnotherapy'. And, although many people have benefitted from a course of hypnotherapy, in order to become non-smokers, often they fall into the trap of just dealing with the symptoms.

If you are a smoker, there is ONE thing you need to understand:

Smoking is not the problem

Smoking is a highly-charged, emotional smokescreen. It keeps the lid on a box of emotional 'stuff', and is kept in place in order to prevent the box from being opened.

Stopping the cigarettes merely makes it more difficult to keep the underlying emotions in check. That's why nicotine replacement merely scratches the surface. If it were just a nicotine addiction, the patches or gum should suffice. They don't.

Willpower? Read on....

Because smoking is a form of oral gratification, people who just quit smoking often put on weight. They then justify this with 'now I can taste my food', or whatever. The fact is that, if it's not a cigarette, something else has to go into the mouth.

Unless you get to the root cause of the problem, you're just going to swap one set of symptoms for another.

There are programs advertising that you can quit smoking in one session - guaranteed.

If you have been observing the progress of these programs, they started with a money-back guarantee, and now just offer a free session. If they were successful, why not the former? I think that's a clue, don't you?

Fortunately (for me), I don't work with smokers, but here is a register of my colleagues, who know how to do it right.
